curling for kids!

Junior Curling Camp May 2-4, 2025!

Junior Curlers are invited to the USJRCA Junior Curling Camp, happening May 2–4, 2025, here at our club. This camp isn’t just for future champions (though national medalists will be there). It’s for any kid who’s picked up a curling stone and wants to learn more—whether they just started or already deliver rocks through the house.

*This camp is for campers that have some curling experience and is not for brand new curlers. Campers should at least be able to deliver a stone the full length of a curling sheet.

This skills camp is lead by coaches with the US Junior Curling Association and runs Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday morning. Parents are welcome to drop their kids off and do not need to stay during instruction time.
$249 includes all instruction, meals, camp shirt, workbook.

Friday, May 2 • 4pm - 9pm
Saturday, May 3 • 9am - 6pm
Sunday, May 4 • 9am - 1pm

Curling is an inclusive and easy-to-learn sport!

Junior curlers are introduced to fundamentals of the sport and gameplay in a low pressure environment. We offer two six-week sessions for kids to learn how to curl per year, one in the fall and one in the winter. We group kids based on age and ability and pair 2-3 volunteer instructors with small groups. Hot chocolate is served after each class for junior curlers to take part in the longstanding curling tradition called broomstacking.

  • Activity in a Low Pressure Environment

Curling is a unique sport where size, gender, strength, and speed are of no particular advantage. Balance, mental focus, and touch are the key skills required to be successful at curling.

  • Adult Mentorship

Kids are put in small groups based on age and ability and learn from multiple volunteer coaches and mentors. Our coaches come from diverse backgrounds and experience levels - but all love the game of curling and sharing it with kids!

  • Peer Connections

Broomstacking is a longstanding curling tradition where the opposing teams sit down after a game and share a drink while talking about the game and life. Hot chocolate is served after every class.

“I think we underestimated how curling has brought out so much positive growth in our son. Curling is definitely filling a void for him and is helping to shape him into a much more confident and outgoing young man.”

- parent of current Junior curler

“What a fun time curling! My son doesn’t love running or being on teams and so the fact that he loved it made my heart so happy. He really needed this!”

  • The emphasis is on having fun while learning the sport of curling!

We begin with a short lesson in our lounge and then spend the bulk of our time on the ice.

When on the ice, we run about thirty minutes of drills and then play some games.

At the conclusion of the game players shake hands and head back to the warm room to broomstack. Junior Broomstacking typically involves hot chocolate.

    • Dress in warm, flexible layers - the on-ice temperature is around 40 degrees! Please no fleece as is sheds fibers and damages our ice. Light, flexible coats and gloves are encouraged.

    • Carry in a pair of clean, flat soled shoes or sneakers. No boots, flipflops, crocs, or sandals.

    • A helmet or equivalent is required for all Rock Star curlers (K - 5th grade) and recommended for others.

    • Water bottles are also encouraged and can be refilled at the club.

    • We provide all necessary curling equipment.

  • We invite caregivers to drop kids off or stay to watch and work in our lounge. We have free wifi!

Please enjoy our space and clean up after yourself.

  • Please send our head coach, Dustine Murphy, an email!
