Club Questions

Tell me about the club.

The Traverse City Curling Club is a 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 2014, to grow and share the great sport of curling in the greater Grand Traverse Bay area. The easiest way to contact us is by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

What is your clubs connection to regional and national curling?

We are connected to USA Curling and the Great Lakes Curling Association (GLCA). TC Curling Club membership includes an annual membership in these two governing bodies of curling. Members receive a monthly magazine during curling season from USA Curling and have access to USA Curling and GLCA sanctioned bonspiels (or tournaments). These organizations support the growth of local curling clubs and also run all regional, national and Olympic-qualifying events. Participation in these events (by playing or volunteering) is a great way to fast-forward your understanding of the game. More info can be found at greatlakescurling.org or teamusa.org/usa-curling.

Who runs the club?

The Club is run by a volunteer Board Of Directors, primarily focused on getting the Club into a dedicated curling ice facility  The day-to-day work of the Club is handled by the Operations Board and the various Committees of that Board.

Where and when do you curl? Can we come watch?

We currently curl on the east rink (David’s Rink) at Centre ICE (1600 Chartwell Drive, Traverse City, MI), where the Centre ICE crew and our own Ice Team work to give curlers some of the best “arena ice” (i.e., ice that hockey players were tearing up 30 minutes earlier) in the Country . Our curling season runs from October through April, and we typically curl on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from about 8:15 to 10:15. And YES, folks can come out and watch for free and start to learn what curling is all about.

How can I get involved?

Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or just come on out, watch some curling, talk to our Club members, and dive in! You can Take a Learn to Curl class, then Join our Mentored Curling Program for additional practice with experienced curlers. Or Become a Club Member, and Join one of our Rec Leagues. We have plenty of Volunteering Opportunities, especially during our end-of-the-season Cherry Bombspiel (you don’t need to know anything about curling to be a valued volunteer at this fun event). And of course, we always like to see folks wearing Club Swag. and – OK – we’ll say it – DONATIONS ALWAYS HELP! We look forward to seeing you on the ice.

Where can I get TC Curling Club swag?

As a member, you will receive a name tag (for new members) as well as a club pin. Pins are a big deal in curling, and sharing club pins is a tradition in bonspiels. Other swag is available at various times of the year

Can I still play if I can't commit to a full league?

Becoming a member allows you to be a free substitute during our league play, a $20 savings per night! If you would like to sub, sign up to be a TC Curling Club member

Do you have any volunteer opportunities?

All year: Yes! Our club is volunteer based and there is lots of work that needs to be done each time we take the ice. Your participation is critical to the growth and sustainability of the club. Some of the areas you can help (and learn along the way) are: Ice Prep and On-ice Teaching Helper (for Learn to Curl/Group events). In addition, we can always use help in the areas of: Graphics, Marketing, Logistics, Handyman stuff (equipment repair/maintenance). If you have a unique skill, please let us know!

How do you communicate with club members and players?

As with any relationship, communication is key. Currently, our most effective and timely communications channel is our Facebook page, TC Curling Club. I urge you to LIKE and FOLLOW our page. Any late breaking news, upcoming events, off-ice opportunities as well as info on bonspiels you can attend will be posted. Additionally, our website is a great place for info. Finally, we send vital information through email. Be sure to add us to your email contacts so you can receive news and info from This email address is being protected from spambots. League Questions

I don't have a team of 4, can I still play?

Yes…we have many fun-loving people looking for teams…we will pair you up!

Can I be paired with a friend or spouse?

Of course! Just be sure to make a note when you fill out your registration and we will do our best to make sure you get paired up together.

What if I can't skate?

You’re in luck! Curling is done in SHOES! Clean, rubber-soled athletic shoes are best…we provide high-tech grippers (rubber bands) to help you get a firm hold of the textured ice, prepared specially for curling.

I'm not good, I just started. I don't want to bring anyone down, but I want to play.

We all just started! Any teammate who is more skilled will want to help you get better. There is only one way to improve…get out and do it! Curlers want to help other curlers get better, it’s part of the beauty of the game.

What if I'll be gone during one of the league nights?

All Members have access to our SubHub where requests for subs on a team or an offer to sub can be made anytime. Upon joining as a member, instructions to join SubHub are sent to each new member.
